The Family Rob Pennicott and Michaye Boulter share a strong commitment to developing and presenting high quality experiential travel opportunities that explore the unique marine environments and coastal landscapes of southern Tasmania. Now in its eighth year of operation, Bruny Island Charters has set the highest standards for environmental travel in sensitive areas.
This year, the family launched their new tour exploring the coastline of the Tasman National Park - Tasman Island Cruises. This exciting venture is a new challenge for the family.
Robert Pennicott spent many years as a professional fisherman in the waters he now cruises, making his living from the sea and learning about the ocean and the coastlines of Bruny Island and the south. Using his deep working knowledge and experience of boats, Rob has always been closely involved with the design and construction of the company's highly-specialised vessels.
Michaye Boulter's childhood and early teenage years were spent voyaging aboard the family's yacht, which they sailed across the Pacific from Australia to Canada. An accomplished artist, Michaye's work has a focus on the changing moods of southern Tasmania's sea, sky and coast.
Having together built the business on the foundation of environmental education, preservation and a wildlife adventure like no other; Bruny Island Charters has gone from strength to strength over the past 8 years. Today, the company employs just under 20 staff and is one of the largest employers on Bruny Island. Robert and his team have taken guests from all over the world on the trip of a lifetime and they love every minute of it!
In December 2005 the company took delivery of three new custom-built boats designed to maximise visitor experience. These vessels have allowed the company to increase visitor numbers to the region and further enhance the visitor experience. In 2005, the restaurant and booking office were also expanded to increase capacity and level of service.
Receiving high praise from locals, interstate guests, visiting journalists and people from overseas; the company has been incredibly successful. Bruny Island Charters also recently won two Tasmanian Tourism Awards and was named a finalist in the 2007 Telstra Business Awards. This is further affirmation that this is a must-do trip for guests during their stay in Hobart and Tasmania.
